Cancel an in-progress payment
Cancel a payment from your ECR with Abort before the customer has presented the card or confirmed the PIN.
Abort lets the cashier cancel a payment from the ECR before the customer has presented the card or confirmed the PIN.
Requirements
| Requirement | Description |
|---|---|
| Integration | Local integration or Cloud integration |
| Before you start | Your ECR is connected and logged in. See Connect your ECR |
| Message | Abort |
How it works
- Your ECR has sent a Payment (or CardAcquisition) request.
- Before the customer taps the card or confirms the PIN, your ECR sends an Abort request.
- If the abort works, the original response comes back with
Result=FailureandErrorCondition=Aborted. - If it's too late, the transaction continues as normal, and the original response shows the result.
Make an abort request
Send an Abort request. In MessageReference, give the ServiceID (or DeviceID) of the request you want to cancel, optionally with its MessageCategory. Add an AbortReason (used for logging). See the example request on Abort.
- Abort has no response of its own. The result comes in the original response.
- After a card acquisition where no payment or balance inquiry follows, send EnableService with
AbortTransactioninstead.
Testing
The cashier can cancel before the customer taps the card or enters the PIN and presses OK. A late abort fails and the payment carries on. The ECR handles both. See Test and get approved.
