Accessibility mode

Voice guidance, high contrast, larger text and headset support so every customer can pay independently, turned on at the terminal or from the ECR.

Accessibility mode helps customers who need audio guidance, high-contrast screens or simpler interaction. It works on portable terminals, integrated terminals with a physical PIN pad, and PIN-on-glass touchscreens.

📘

European Accessibility Act

Accessibility mode supports merchants preparing for Directive (EU) 2019/882, which applies to products placed on the market after 28 June 2025.

Turn it on

  • Tap the accessibility icon, top right of the idle screen.
  • Press and hold key 5 on the idle screen (supported devices).
  • Plug a headset into the terminal.
  • Send AeAccessibilityMode: true from the ECR. See Enable from the ECR.

What changes for the customer

  • Voice guidance from "present card" through "confirm choices" and "enter PIN". Customers can use their own headphones.
  • High contrast and larger text on key screens, for example black text on a white background.
  • Full coverage of every step where the customer interacts: PIN entry (touchscreen or keypad), currency choice (DCC), and card application selection when the card has several.
